Behind the Screen: Philosophie
This is an exciting day for us here at OXiGEN™! We’re kicking off our new blog series that’s aimed at shining some light “Behind the Screen” of some of the most influential health and wellness experts in the digital space today.
To get our series rolling, we recently caught up with Sophie Jaffe of Philosophie. @philosophiemama is a superfood queen! As she’s started to integrate OXiGEN into her daily regimen, we’ve learned a TON from her about anti-oxidant rich foods, one of the wellness industry’s best kept secrets (well, not anymore!) and your best bet for staying full for hours!
OXiGEN: How did you get involved in your profession?
Sophie: I began working at a juice bar when I was 20 years old and fell in love with raw foods.
OXiGEN: What’s your favorite meal of the day?
Sophie: That’s honestly a really tough call. Probably lunch because that’s usually when I have the most time to prepare it. I love making giant superfood sprouted salads the size of my face filled with tons of healthy fats like avocado, nuts, and tahini. They’re so delicious and keep me full for hours! And really, dessert is my most favorite of all.
OXiGEN: If you had a list of “best-kept secrets” about your industry, what would it include?
Sophie: That it’s actually really easy to eat healthy. Once you develop a system, routine, and rhythm, it becomes second nature.
OXiGEN: You started drinking OXiGEN water a few months ago now. How do you find it impacts you?
Sophie: I’m a huge believer in putting intention into what you are putting into your body. For example, if you are telling yourself that something is pure and you’re taking care of yourself, the given product will work magic in your body. In the same way, if you are telling yourself that you’re a piece of sh*t for eating a doughnut, those negative thoughts have a far worse effect on your body than the actual doughnut itself. When you are filling yourself with positive thoughts, those positive thoughts are what flood your body with vibrancy.
OXiGEN: How does having increased oxygen impact your daily wellness and overall health?
Sophie: Breath is the link that connects all the moments in my life into one. From leading yoga classes to workout classes to responding to stressful situations, the breath unites all the small moments into my reality, keeping me centered and connected to my ultimate truth.
OXiGEN: Looking three to five years ahead, what changes do you think you’ll see in your industry?
Sophie: I’m hoping that superfoods will be more widespread and that the concept will be more familiar to a broader range of people.
OXiGEN: If a friend were visiting LA for the first time, what healthy restaurants would you recommend that they try?
Sophie: I’m OBSESSED with Café Gratitude. I love the whole idea behind the restaurant, and the food is all prepared with care and love, and it’s totally vegan too! Their Mexican counterpart, Gracias Madre is a really unique concept too, with amazing cocktails!
OXiGEN: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Sophie: Los Angeles, where I live now! I’m living my dream every day.
OXiGEN: What’s your go-to BBQ food item?
Sophie: Corn on the cob, peaches and veggie burgers!
OXiGEN: If you were stuck on an island for the rest of your life with only three items, what would they be?
Sophie: All coconut products. Coconuts are SUCH a miracle food. Coconut oil can be used as an all over body moisturizer, coconut meat is filling and full of nutrients and healthy fats, and the coconut shell itself can be used as a little pouch to carry all of your other survival essentials.
OXiGEN: Coconut for the win! Where do you enjoy traveling to most?
Sophie: I love going to Mexico. It’s just close enough to LA that it’s not super inconvenient to get to, but it feels like a completely different world. The culture is amazing and it just totally transports you.
OXiGEN: Everyone needs a cocktail on vacation; if you could only have one cocktail, what would it be?
Sophie: Rosé all the way!
OXiGEN: What are three activities you love to do outside of work?
Sophie: I love catching one of my friends’ yoga classes, having a beach day with the kids, frolicking around Venice Beach and grabbing dinner at Café Gratitude.
OXiGEN: What’s on your go-to playlist right now?
Sophie: “Rap Caviar” on Spotify (when the kids aren’t around).
OXiGEN: Lastly, who inspires you?
Sophie: My husband, Adi, inspires me EVERY single DAY to be better. His story is incredible to look back at from where he is today. I love, appreciate, adore and honor his brilliance, kindness, support and groundedness. He is one of the most inspiring + GOOD-natured human beings I’ve ever been lucky enough to know.
